Experiences I Never Thought I Would Have

So I am trying out to be the student speaker for my graduation this May. I probably won't get it because I am competing with more well-known and popular people. But my friend is right (as she always is), I should try regardless. At least I can say that I tried, even if I don't get selected. There were a thousand things I wanted to talk about and share with my fellow classmates. But clearly they wouldn't care what happened in my life. So I will share it on my blog. When I entered college, I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I assumed I would received a degree, I assumed I would graduate. Anything in between was up in the air. I isolated myself the first year and a half. I barely made friends and only knew a small handful of people. Then things turned when I was invited to join Tau Beta Pi (National Engineering Honor Society). I didn't think I would get much out of it; it was just another thing to put on my resume when I went on interviews. But a slight inclination came through me and I decided to run for a position on board. I won't bore you with the details to how I was such a failure. In the end, I was sort of elected to be the Convention Arrangements Chair. My god was it the biggest wake up call I could have as a junior in college.

I have already shared good memories regarding this Tau Beta Pi incident. But this society has really made a difference in my life. The probability of me being the convention arrangement chair the year it was set to be at Rutgers University could not have come at a better time; and crazy enough, it was an overwhelming experience. I made this layout to remember the professionals that I have met through this society and everything I have learned to be a better manager. As a tribute to Tau Beta Pi, " I learned so much while planning for the National Convention. Thank you Tau Beta Pi for the amazing experience. Tau Beta Pi members are just the most amazing group of people ever!"

You notice the semi circles below the photos? Look familiar? They are from the same patterned paper I cut for the circles on my Not Lucky entry. I love the Making Memories Chloe's Closet letter stickers. I heard other scrapbookers rave about them, but I didn't understand how great they were until I got them for my birthday.

Time Flies When You're Having Fun

So I am sitting in my room tonight having a heart to heart chat with my awesome roommate, Roxi. She is a pharmacy major (really smart person); and she is always studying. So it is rare that we get the chance to just lay in our bed and chat. My gosh has time flew by; I met Roxi almost three years ago as a panicking freshman looking for roommates my sophomore year. I am so glad that I found her and the group of pharmacy students that I ended up living with. I barely spent anytime with her for the next two years because I was always busy with my boyfriends. She was a great sport and never got mad that I left her alone. She probably preferred me not bothering her anyway.

For the last two and a half months, I spent nearly everyday with her. It was just like I imagined it would have been if I spent more time in my room. I am sad I will be leaving her at the end of this May, I really wish I got to know her better.  I already know she is an awesome person with a great future ahead of her. Hopefully before the semester is over she and I will have a few more great weeks together and create more memories. We definitely did when Clinton Kelly came to our school to talk about professional wear. One thing for sure Roxi and I are big fans of the show What Not to Wear on TLC. Clinton Kelly is just as awesome in real life as he is on television. A really down to earth kind of guy. We had a great time and great seats not to mention. Nothing too special about the layout, just that , it was a really special event that I share with Roxi.

My 22nd

Since we are in a week full of birthdays, I thought I would share my 22nd birthday layout. It wasn't a day of extravagance, but it was memorable and pleasant. I got an awesome present from my friends: a new scrapbooking box and a bunch of awesome scrap goodies. The ribbon on the page was in the birthday package. Rutgers Club also surprised me with a slice of cheesecake and a song.

I promised myself the day Sindhu and I went scrapbook supply shopping that I wouldn't purchase anymore paper, but I couldn't resist when they were on sale for 25 cents each. I got this one at the cute Scrappers Cove  store in the town next door. But I have been collecting paper forever. I have all sizes and I tried use as much of it as possible. I loved the cute 6x6 patterned paper with Happy Birthday on it. I just cut them into strips and used it to frame my smaller pictures.

15 Years and Counting

Happy Birthday Steph!
This week is filled with birthdays. I want to wish a very big birthday shout out to my longest friend, Stephanie Hong. I am one of the Chocolatier designers for Crop Chocolate and with my special products I designed this
card for Steph. For the first time, I was able to use a rub on successfully. It was actually really fun. I was going to do it on a white background, but I thought the white would hide the white parts of the rub on. So I decided to use a black background. I think it turned out really nice. I also used the ribbon as the binding.

A message to the Birthday Girl:
We have been friends for fifteen years (give or take a year). I always expected that we would be friends for life, and it is truly great to have this as evidence of our commitment. I wish I remembered how we became best friends in second grade. How did you stand me all these years? Well, I cannot celebrate the special day with you, but I bet we will have a great time this weekend.

For Mr. President

Today is a special day for one of my favorite people in the world. Happy Birthday Mr. President! (Also known as Ariel by others.) I made this layout on Valentine's Day, same day I made the layout in For My Reader entry. Both pictures, of both layouts, were taken on the same evening in Sacramento. It was definitely a good memory and another great picture. I can finally say that I am living out the experiences of being a college student, my meager handful has grown to a plentiful many in the last two years. But the one experience I will be forever grateful for was the opportunity to go to California with four strangers. They have grown to be my closest friends.

In this layout, I took a lot of time to cut out those patterns on the right side of the page. It is not visible in this picture, but I used foam tape to raise it off the page. The title blended into the background, so I used the gold leaves that I had received for my birthday to bring out the lettering.

A message to the Birthday Boy:
Although you are very far away, (okay, maybe not too far) in New York studying to be a genius, thank you for being a supportive friend and for sharing the good memories with me. Hope you have an awesome day, even though you most likely have another busy day at school. Love you and miss you dearly. Have fun tonight!

Not Lucky

Been super busy this spring break, it honestly didn't even feel like I had a break. But I am back with loads to share. This is one I did a couple of weeks before break. I was feeling unproductive on a Friday night and decided to take over my room with my supplies. My mom had a picture taken at the Trump Casino with me sitting at the slots. I never considered myself a lucky person. Actually, I think it is something you have to be born with. My parents don't seem to be the lucky types either. It has been legal for me to gamble for awhile now. But  I never got around to it until my parents decided to take a weekend trip to Atlantic City. As you can tell I am not a big risk taker, I could only sit myself down in front of a penny slot machine. I even limited myself to five bucks, yes, I know I am lame. It was an interesting experience, but I don't think I am cut out for the big bucks. I'll just earn my dollars the normal working . But I do think I am lucky in many others ways, to be blessed with friends, opportunities and the life I will be having someday would probably be all due to luck. So I guess all my luck just hasn't come around yet.

I recently saw someone cut their patterned paper and I wondered why? It was so pretty on the page why cut it out. I saw how simple circles were made into embellishments. So I decided to cut my scraps of patterned paper too. That's how I got the boarder. Lately I have been too lazy to even get out my SLICE. So I decided to make the title with my own hand drawn letters. I think my favorite part is the bottom line on the layout "But I try anyway" cause you always hope things will turn out in your favor, even when you clearly know they won't. No harm in hoping, right?

So my computer broke down two weeks ago, but it has been fixed by my very awesome friend, Jason Hwee. Not only did I have my computer fixed, I received my Chocolatier Package from Crop Chocolate. I have so much to do this week before spring break. I cannot wait to just relax and of course do more work when my break comes. I guess that project  will just have to wait. Until then, I decided to post something new.

This layout is my one of my best in a long while.  Or at least I think it has been my better ones. It is simple and feels complete. The accents of the orange and blue are brought out by the embellishments. The picture also has meaning for me because these friends are some of the favorite people in my life. It has meaning for me, especially the quote “Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only TRUE FRIENDS will leave footprints in your heart.”

Sweet Mates

So my laptop, Charlie, died on me last Friday. He was smart enough to tell me that he was going to die, so I was prepared. However, now I do not have a computer; currently, I am used my little brother's mini notebook. My new internal hard disk is on its way, and I cannot wait because there are only so many things this little baby can do. I hadn't finish scanning my new layouts in, so I decided to post an old one.

I am finally spending more time with my roommate, so I decided to send this one out to her. The picture is from my roommates birthday this past year. Roxi's birthday is on Halloween, just like my Mom's, which makes it crazy easy to remember. She is the one all the way on the right. If you don't know what I look like, I am the one in the middle and the one on the left is our awesome RA this year, Kristen.

I have official fallen in love with flowers, ribbon and buttons. They are my absolute favorite embellishments for my pages. I would love to cover an entire page with buttons; I just cannot seem to let myself use all my buttons on a page. I used left over scraps to create the different divisions on my layout. I love how my bright yellow flowers stand out with the cute buttons on them.
